Cambridge Centre for Chinese Theology

The Centre will establish six-month visiting scholarships from October 2025 onwards. Applications for the October 2025 to September 2026 scholarships are now open, please apply below.

Stipendiary Visiting Scholars

Each academic year, the Cambridge Centre for Chinese Theology (CCCT) sponsors a scholar specialising in Chinese theology and Christianities as an academic visitor.

The title 'Visiting Scholar' is offered to those already engaged in an academic career, evidenced through academic publications, and employed in a University or Theological College (Seminary), either in the UK or overseas. Applicants should have a PhD in Theology or other relevant areas and be able to reside in Cambridge for 4-6 months to work on a project related to Chinese theology and Christianities. During their stay Visiting Scholars will participate in the research life of the Faculty, for example by attending a senior research seminar and sharing in discussion with colleagues and graduate researchers.

Visiting Scholars will have the following benefits:

  • Bursaries: Each visiting scholar will be awarded a monthly bursary of £1,000.
  • Networking: Engagement with the Faculty and other Cambridge scholars for potential collaborations.
  • Library Access: Full access to the libraries of the University and the Faculty.

Visiting Scholars will have the following responsibilities:

  • Research: Conduct independent research and produce high-quality scholarly work in relation to Chinese theology and Christianities.
  • Academic talk: Present their original research papers at a seminar within the Faculty.
  • Publication: Submit their original research paper to prestigious journals for peer review before the end of their visit.

Timetable for Applications

Please note that applications will only be considered once each academic session. For academic session 2025/26 the following timetable will has been set.

  • 22 August 2025 — submission deadline
  • 29 August 2025 — shortlisting results
  • First two weeks of September — online interview

Applications will be judged strictly on academic merit. Decisions will be communicated to the applicants shortly after the interview.

How to Apply

  • Please send a full curriculum vitae and  the completed
  • Please send an outline of the work you intend to do while here (1–2 A4 pages, in Arial 12-point font).
  • Please send a published research article (up to 8,000 words).
  • Please ask two academic referees to write to us on your behalf, stating the reasons why it would be helpful for you to spend time in Cambridge.

Non-Stipendiary Visiting Scholars

The non-stipendiary visiting scholar is offered to those already engaged in an academic career, evidenced through academic publications, and employed in a University or Theological College (Seminary), either in the UK or overseas. Applicants should have a PhD in Theology or other relevant areas and be able to reside in Cambridge for 4-6 months to work on a project related to Chinese theology and Christianities.
