Call for Applications: 2026–2027 Doctoral Research Fellowship

The Ricci Institute for Chinese–Western Cultural History at Boston College invites applications for its 2026–2027 Doctoral Research Fellowship, a six-week residential research program to be held from August 31 to October 9, 2026.
This fellowship supports current doctoral students—preferably those who have completed coursework and are actively engaged in dissertation research—whose projects would benefit from the Ricci Institute’s extensive library and archival collections. Research areas include the history of Christianity in East Asia (China, Japan, Korea, and Vietnam) through its cultural and intellectual history, religious history, education, diplomacy, art history, translation, history of science, and/or comparative studies of Christianity and East Asian cultures.
Fellows are expected to reside continuously at Boston College during the fellowship period, conduct research using the Institute’s collections, present their work, and participate in Ricci Institute research activities. The working language of the program is English.
Fellowship Support
- Six-week residency at Boston College
- Institute-arranged and paid for local lodging provided
- $3,000 USD stipend (subject to applicable tax regulations)
- Full library privileges at Boston College
Application Information
